May 17, 1938 – March 4, 2024
William Hugh Bartlett (85) of Mechanicsville Va. passed away on March 4, 2024, surrounded by his family. Bill embodied the roles of a devoted father, loving husband, doting grandpa, supportive brother, and a cherished friend, leaving an indelible mark on all those fortunate enough to be part of his life. Steadfast in his dedication to those around him, he was a man of few words who consistently strived to be helpful to others in everything he did.
Bill was born to the late Virginia and Hugh Bartlett in Roanoke, Va. After high school he proudly served 4 years in the Navy traveling all over the Mediterranean. He worked for Reynolds Metals for 30 years, mostly as a Transportation Manager, and during that time he also earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Richmond. During his working career he was a member of the Richmond Transportation Club and later retired from Menlo Logistics in 2006.
Bill had many hobbies over the course of his life including woodworking, photography, scout leader, gardening and reading. He and Linda loved to travel in retirement and visited all 50 states and their capitals in their adventures together. They also visited many places across the world, traveling to Bermuda, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, England, Ireland, St. Thomas, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, The Netherlands, and more.
During his life, family was most important to him. His happiest moments were when he was with his grandchildren doing whatever they wanted to do! He was one proud Grandpa and treasured every memory they made together.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his daughter, Deirdre Bailey; brothers Lewis D. Bartlett of Prince George, Charles E. Bartlett of Henrico and David J. Bartlett of Chesterfield.
He is survived by his wife of almost 55 years, Linda; son, Brian Bartlett, daughter-in-law, Carrie Bartlett; grandchildren, Delaney and Preston Bartlett. Bill also leaves behind his brother Wayne and wife Faye, his sister, Susie and a host of nieces and nephews.
