The family of Sheila Carol Pittman Wolfe invite you to help celebrate a life well lived. Sheila, born on August 4, 1943, in Marianna, FL, was the daughter of the late Ira Dewitt Pittman and Sara Agnes Sims Pittman, and was the epitome of a World War II baby. After the Korean War, her family made Tallahassee their home where she attended Leon High School. Sheila was active in the choral department and was proud to be a Melodear. After graduating in 1961, she attended Florida State University School of Music, having been noted as the “next Judy Garland.” However, falling in love, she left school to raise two sons and a daughter.
In addition to her family, she had many loves that included East Hill Baptist Church where she was active in the choral programs, children’s programs, Sunday School (as a teacher to both the young and her peers), and served as a deacon. Sheila also passionately loved FSU having been a secretary in the Basketball program when her two oldest were young and then went on to be active in Extra Point Club, serving as President and staying active with her daughter, Randy, and daughter-in-law, Kristi. Another of her passions created some of her dearest friends through her involvement in the Elks Club. She and her husband, Larry, enjoyed many deep friendships stemming from their involvement. Sheila’s achievements included being an Elkette President, an Elkette of the Year, and a Life Member.
While being active in the community, Sheila also worked 18 years as a Deputy Clerk of the Leon County Circuit Court. Towards the end of her career, she left to work at the FL Association of City Clerks where she and her team accomplished one of her biggest achievements by creating a self-funding network system that allowed court systems in various agencies to communicate with each other, making Florida the first state to achieve this goal. For leisure, she enjoyed being at their house in Mysterious Waters and boating along the Wakulla River watching the wildlife and manatees.
Sheila is preceded in death by her father and mother, ID and Agnes Pittman, and her sister, Kathryn Huey and survived by her husband, Larry, sons, Larry, Jr. (Angela) and Spencer (Kristi), and daughter, Randy (Michael), 5 grandchildren, James Hopkins, Jr. and Jonathan Hopkins, Madeline Wolfe, Sadie Wolfe, and Spencer Wolfe, II, a sister, Sara Pace (Jeff), a niece, Carrie Sellers (Cory), and nephew RJ Adams, Jr.
A Celebration of Life service will be held 2:30 pm on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at East Hill Baptist Church at 912 Miccosukee Road, Tallahassee, FL 32308, followed by a reception at the church. Inurnment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in Sheila’s name to East Hill Baptist Church, https://onrealm.org/EastHill/Give.
