Ramon Sanchez Sr.

Ramon Sanchez Sr., age 83, of Brownsville, TX, died at home of natural causes on March 2, 2024. He was born in Salsamoras, Tamaulipas, Mexico on August 12, 1940, to parents Pablo+ and Hortencia Sanchez+.

In his final three days, he celebrated his wife’s 84th birthday, enjoyed the company of his children, and hosted a memorable game night with family, passing away peacefully 24 hours after his guests left.

At age 13, Ramon met his beautiful future wife, Odelia in 1953 in Matamoros, Tamaulipas. Although they tried several times in their youth to break up, they could not stay away from each other, for God had other plans. Excited to start their new lives together, the two were married in 1964 in Matamoros.

Ramon and Odelia were not only partners in marriage but also in business, working together to establish successful ventures while raising their three children. They may have had hardships throughout the years, but with God, they displayed the perfect representation of traditional marriage vows…for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health. Ramon and Odelia shared their wisdom and experience with countless couples, offering guidance and support in their own marriage journey. Ramon's legacy lives on through the love he shared with his wife and family, leaving behind a profound impact on all who knew him.

He was a proud American who embraced everything his adopted country offered. A naturalized citizen since 1966, Ramon deeply appreciated the ideals and opportunities the United States provided. He not only contributed to society but also assisted family members in obtaining citizenship to pursue their own American Dream.

Ramon's career was marked by achievements and entrepreneurial endeavors. He was proud to have been one of the first Hispanic USDA cotton classification inspectors for the Agricultural Department. His commitment to excellence and precision earned him recognition and respect within the agricultural community. He became a mentor, educating future inspectors nationwide allowing him to experience other parts of the country with Memphis being his favorite. He loved to boast about having met Elvis Presley in Graceland.

Venturing into business, Ramon and Richard Buchholz co-founded El Clavo Sales Co., a successful lumber yard company in Brownsville, TX. Ramon later established Ray's Hardware and despite lacking formal engineering or architectural training, his innate talent and business acumen allowed him to design and build numerous homes throughout Brownsville. Additionally, becoming a residential general contractor and real estate salesman. His success transitioned his life from humble beginnings to being able to provide not only for his family but also for whomever needed assistance. His businesses generated job opportunities for others who respected him as a businessman and a boss. Because of his generosity, he gifted land and homes to loved ones and offered financial aid without expecting anything in return - his “return on investment” was knowing he had helped his fellowman.

Ramon's passion for community and family extended to his vibrant social life. Along with Odelia, he hosted lively gatherings, filled with laughter, and cherished moments shared with siblings, in-laws, nieces, and nephews. His legendary parties always “wrapped up” with a two-hour long mariachi serenade, a testament to his zest for life and hospitality. His house was the place to be, and his parties were always anticipated joyful events.

In 1990, Ramon's life took a transformative turn from his old ways and habits to embracing Christianity. His newfound faith became the cornerstone of his life, leading him to pursue theological studies at Instituto Biblico Southmost and becoming an ordained minister. As a volunteer preacher, he ministered to both youth and adults, sharing his love for God and devotion to the Scriptures. He loved researching the bible and preparing for his next teachings.

Throughout his spiritual journey, Ramon was profoundly influenced by individuals who guided and inspired him. From family members like Lupe and Ofelia Aguirre, who persisted he accompany them in attending church to mentors like: "El Charro" Torres, who led Ramon through the prayer of salvation; Juanita Huerta+, who inspired him to attend bible school; Brother Manzano, his favorite instructor and friend during his studies; the members of Paulino Bernal Ministries, McAllen, TX: Paulino Bernal Sr.+ and Mary, Paulino Bernal Jr.+, Eloy Bernal, Pete Guzman, and Gilbert Sanchez, each played a pivotal role in shaping his faith and were instrumental in his spiritual growth.

Ramon Sanchez Sr. will fondly be remembered for his business determination, consideration and generosity toward others, and for being a man of his word. He leaves behind a legacy with his faith-based testimony that will continue to inspire future generations.

Mom, he could not have had a more loving, dedicated, and caring wife than you. He was a blessed man from the moment he married you to the moment he took his last breath. Thank you for showing us what love looks and feels like – God truly broke the mold after He made you. Thank you for loving our dad!

A visitation for Ramon will be held Sunday, March 10, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a Prayer Service at 6:00pm in Chapel of Peace, at Funeraria del Angel Buena Vista, 125 Mcdavitt Blvd, Brownsville, Texas 78521. A continued visitation will occur Monday, March 11, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM with a Chapel Service at 2:00 PM in Chapel of Peace. Followed by a burial on Monday, March 11, 2024 at 3:00 PM at Buena Vista Burial Park.

Ramon Sanchez Sr., de 83 años, de Brownsville, TX, falleció en su hogar de causas naturales el 2 de marzo de 2024. Nació en Salsamoras, Tamaulipas, México, el 12 de agosto de 1940, hijo de Pablo+ y Hortencia Sanchez+. En sus últimos tres días, el celebró el cumpleaños número 84 de su esposa, disfrutó de la compañía de sus hijos y estuvo presente jugando una noche memorable de loteria con su familia, falleciendo pacíficamente 24 horas después de que sus invitados se fueran.

A la edad de 13 años, Ramon conoció a su bella futura esposa, Odelia, en 1953 en Matamoros, Tamaulipas. Aunque intentaron varias veces separarse en su juventud, no pudieron mantenerse alejados el uno del otro, ya que Dios tenía otros planes. Emocionados por comenzar sus nuevas vidas juntos, se casaron en 1964 en Matamoros.

Ramon y Odelia fueron no solo compañeros en el matrimonio sino también en los negocios, trabajando juntos para establecer empresas exitosas mientras criaban a sus tres hijos. Aunque enfrentaron adversidades a lo largo de los años, con la ayuda de Dios, mostraron la representación perfecta de los votos matrimoniales tradicionales... en el bien y el mal, en la pobreza y en la riqueza, en la enfermedad y en la salud. Ramon y Odelia compartieron su sabiduría y experiencia con innumerables parejas, ofreciendo orientación y apoyo en su propio viaje matrimonial. El legado de Ramon vive a través del amor que compartió con su esposa y su familia, dejando un profundo impacto en todos los que lo conocieron.

Era un orgulloso estadounidense que abrazó lo que su país adoptivo ofrecía. Ciudadano naturalizado desde 1966, Ramon apreciaba profundamente los ideales y oportunidades que Estados Unidos proporcionaba. No solo contribuyó a la sociedad, sino que también ayudó a miembros de su familia a obtener la ciudadanía para perseguir su propio Sueño Americano.

La carrera de Ramon estuvo marcada por logros y emprendimientos empresariales. Estaba orgulloso de haber sido uno de los primeros inspectores hispanos de clasificación de algodón del USDA para el Departamento de Agricultura. Ramon luego estableció Ray's Hardware y, a pesar de la falta de formación formal en ingeniería o arquitectura, su talento innato y su agudeza comercial le permitieron diseñar y construir numerosas casas en todo Brownsville. Además, se convirtió en contratista general residencial y vendedor de bienes raíces. Su éxito transformó su vida desde humildes comienzos hasta poder proveer no solo para su familia, sino también para quien necesitara ayuda. Sus empresas generaron oportunidades de trabajo para otros que lo respetaban como empresario y jefe. Debido a su generosidad, regaló tierras y casas a sus seres queridos y ofreció ayuda financiera sin esperar nada a cambio; su "retorno de inversión" era saber que había ayudado a su prójimo.

La pasión de Ramon por la comunidad y la familia se extendía a su vibrante vida social. Junto con su esposa, organizaba reuniones animadas, llenas de risas y momentos queridos compartidos con hermanos, cuñados, sobrinas y sobrinos. Sus legendarias fiestas siempre concluían con una serenata de mariachi de dos horas, un testimonio de su entusiasmo por la vida y su hospitalidad. Su casa era donde uno queria estar, y sus fiestas siempre eran eventos anticipados y llenos de alegría.

En 1990, la vida de Ramon dio un giro transformador, dejando atrás sus viejas costumbres y hábitos para abrazar el cristianismo. Su nueva fe se convirtió en la piedra angular de su vida, lo que lo llevó a estudiar teología en el Instituto Bíblico Southmost y a convertirse en ministro ordenado. Como predicador voluntario, ministraba tanto a jóvenes como a adultos, compartiendo su amor por Dios y su devoción a las Escrituras. Le encantaba escrudiñar la Biblia y prepararse para sus próximas enseñanzas.

A lo largo de su viaje espiritual, Ramon fue profundamente influenciado por personas que lo guiaron e inspiraron. Ramon Sanchez Sr. será recordado con cariño por su determinación empresarial, consideración y generosidad hacia los demás, y por ser un hombre de palabra. Deja un legado con su testimonio basado en la fe que seguirá inspirando a las futuras generaciones.
