Ollie Mae Henrichson McNabb passed away on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at the age of 86. She was surrounded in her last hours by her loving children.
Ollie was born in Mathis, Texas and raised in San Patricio and Banquete, Texas. She came from a long line of strong and resilient people. The John Edward Henrichson family was one of the first families to settle in San Patricio and the Nueces River.
Ollie was born to Lloyd James Henrichson and Nell Robertson Henrichson on March 5, 1937. The family settled in Banquete where she loved her community and was involved in her school and church.
Ollie loved to dance. Her parents would take her to Robstown Community Hall and the Orange Grove Rifle Club to listen and dance to Country/Western and Polka music. At one of these dances, she met the love of her life, Thomas (Tom) Smith McNabb. They soon married and were off to a life of many adventures. They were blessed with six children whom they loved dearly. Thomas was a welder by trade and traveled the United States for employment. Ollie would travel with him, children in tow, wherever the work took them.
Ollie was a homemaker for many years and raised her children while Tom was away working. She was an excellent seamstress, crafter, and florist. When her children were older, she went to work for several florists in Robstown and Annaville. Her last employment was with Buddy Walker Furniture in Corpus Christi. People from Corpus Christi and surrounding communities would come to Buddy Walker to purchase her arrangements. Her floral arrangements decorated many homes, big and small.
Ollie was the kindest and most giving woman a person could ever meet. Tom and Ollie joined the Fraternal Order of the Moose and they both soon rose to the highest ranking officers of the organization. Ollie oversaw many fundraisers to assist with the local non-profit organizations.
Due to health issues for both Tom and Ollie, their last residence would be the Villa Northwest Assisted Living in Annaville (Corpus Christi). Ollie made many new friends with the staff and the residents. She was the secretary of the Resident’s Council and was voted Valentine Queen. She enjoyed all the activities that were offered but her favorite was Bingo. If you were visiting, she would kindly let you know that she had to go now for Bingo. Ollie loved the craft of crocheting. She would crochet many items to donate to Bingo. She also crocheted baby blankets for staff member’s grandchildren and also crocheted for her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.
Ollie was raised in the Catholic Church and was glad when the church started saying Rosary and offering communion once a week at the Villa. She enjoyed all the church services with the singing and the praising of the Lord.
Ollie is survived by her six loving children, Katherine Shumake, Shana (Hutch) Hutchins, Peggy Moehle (Tom Hudson), Michael (April) McNabb, Kenneth McNabb and Stephen (Kelly) McNabb. She will be missed by her 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces.
