It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Len at the North Shore Hospice in North Vancouver BC in Monday February 26th.
He was predeceased by his parents Bill and Leona Horvath, his sister Sheila, and his daughter Susanne. His is survived by his wife Valerie, son Karl and daughter-in-law Carolyn and his grandchildren Finn and Hannah Murphy and his many nieces and nephews.
Len grew up in Nelson, BC. From 12 to 18 year old boy he delivered papers, collected bottles worked at a shoe store after school and on weekends and he played the saxophone in a local band.
Len was an intelligent, caring, calm and giving man. As a younger man he coached Karl’s hockey team. He had difficulty with that at times because he could barely skate. He also coached boys baseball and we both helped at the swim club our daughter Susanne was involved in. He was a scout leader for the older boys (The Venturers) for years and later in the administration (financial) side. Currently he was involved with the provincial program Clean BC/The Green Initiative and a Federal Program/CSA-Canadian Standards Association
Len had many interests skiing, golfing, camping, hiking, and travelling, reading but his main interest was foraging for mushrooms (chanterelles, pine, morels oysters etc). He convinced many people to go with him.
As an owner of a business, Len freely gave of his time as a way of contributing to the community we live in. On his life journey Len met a lot of amazing people (UBC, Telus, Hydro, Lighting etc.)
We will miss you Len, give Susane a big hug for us.
Love Val, Karl, Carolyn, Finn and Hannah and your many nieces and nephews
