Born on April 2, 1942, He was a son of the late Judson David and Pennie Rhodes Barbour of Clayton.
He lived a full, rich Christian life dedicating himself to family and others. He was a loving husband, devoted dad, granddad, great granddad, loving uncle and friend to many.
JE loved his family and had a multitude of friends throughout his years. He served in his Christian life as a Sunday school teacher, Choir member, Deacon, and a trustee for Powhatan Original Free Will Baptist Church.
In his Christian life he, Barbara, and Amy began a bluegrass gospel group called the Spirituals. They enjoyed spreading God’s word through song for ten years. When three of the group passed away, JE told Barbara that they were too old to start over and she told him to speak for himself. They did not start another group, however, they put their talents in their home church. In his work life, he was a master craftsman of special Millwork. He began that work with Carolina Components of Raleigh. From there, he owned and operated B&B Millwork with his brother Lloyd. They then opened J&L Millwork, both being operated out of Clayton.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at Powhatan Original Free Will Baptist Church in Clayton. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00pm at the church just prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
