John Thomas Gray, Jr., age 76, passed away on March 1, 2024 at his home in Memphis, TN, following a struggle with cancer. A visitation will be held at Brantley Funeral Home on Sunday, March 3, 2024 from 1-2 pm with a funeral service to begin at 2:00 pm. Born to J.T. Gray and Margie Reed Gray on December 18, 1947, he was the youngest of four children. He was predeceased by his parents, and three sisters: Virginia Billings, Jackie Ray, and June Baker. Thomas is survived by his wife, Martha; his two daughters, Wanda and Heather; stepson, David Evans; three grandchildren: Brian (Jess), Brianne (Matt), and Brooklynn; three step-grandchildren: Timothy, Dylan, and Sara; and three great-grandchildren: Kamryn, Raelynn, Everson. Thomas was born in Oxford, MS and attended Oxford High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, which he joined in 1967 and served in Vietnam. He was wounded and awarded three Purple Hearts. He worked at the USPS for 34 years until he retired. He loved his family, Ole Miss Sports, fishing, and playing pool. One of Thomas’s favorite quotes was by Oscar Wilde, “Some cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go.” All who knew him loved him. He is gone from our home, but not from our hearts.
