After almost 89 years, Hallie M. Loomis, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, completed her work on this earth, and went to be with her Lord on March 3, 2024. She was born April 8, 1935 in Canton, Ohio, the daughter of Ebbert and Regina (Speelman) Hall. She graduated from Canton Lincoln H.S. in 1953, and went on to earn her R.N. degree from the Aultman Hospital School of Nursing in Canton in September of 1956. She married James P. Loomis a few days later, and moved to Columbus, where she worked as a staff nurse in the nursery at Mt. Carmel Hospital until 1958, when her nursing career was put on hold to raise her family. She re-certified as a nurse in 1975, and worked as a nurse at Riverside Hospital from 1975-1993, retiring as the assistant nurse manager of the Wesley Health Center where she touched many lives. Her nursing career took on yet another direction when she served as parish nurse for North Broadway United Methodist Church from 1993-2003.
She and husband Jim spent 20 years involved with Methodist Marriage Encounter, serving as Presenting Team on weekends, Regional Coordinators in Central & Southeast Ohio, Ohio Lay Executive Couple and Ohio Team Coordinators. She also served as a Stephen minister, responding to individuals in crisis with spiritual support. Upon moving to Wesley Glen retirement community in 2015, Hallie became a very active member of the community, including serving as the Resident Council president there from 2020-2022. She was a faithful and active member of North Broadway church for over 60 years, until her declining health prevented her from attending. Among her many passions, she was an avid reader, a lifelong learner, and a lover of all God's earthly creations. After retiring, Hallie and Jim bought a home at Apple Valley Lake, where they made countless memories hosting family and friends. They also travelled extensively during these years. Hallie was a friend to all and a cherished community member - her legacy of family, faith, love, compassion and service have and will continue to bless those who knew her.
Hallie is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Jim; daughters Leslie Ritter and Laurie (Ed) Monnier; grandchildren Lauren (Garrett) Parsons, Natalie Monnier, Kyrsten Stoll, and Alex Monnier.
A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations could be made to North Broadway United Methodist Church, the Wesley Glen charitable fund, or Ohio Health Hospice. We are so grateful for the support of North Broadway, the Wesley Glen friends and staff, and Ohio Health Hospice, for their loving care in her final months.
