On Sunday, March 3, 2024, Bill William Murton, 74, passed suddenly into Glory in Woodstock, Georgia. One moment he was vibrant and engaged in ministry and the next moment Jesus called him to his eternal home in Heaven.
Bill was born on May 25, 1949 to Bill and June Murton in Cleveland, Ohio and he was “born again” at the age of twelve. Recently Bill wrote a letter to one of his friends where in his own words he testified, “A friend asked me to go to church with him and I decided to go. This was when I made God the focus of my life. God forgave me and gave me a new perspective on life. The most important thing is that I am guaranteed that I will be in Heaven when I die; not because I am good, or have done more good than bad, but because of what God did for me through Jesus Christ on the Cross.”
Bill graduated from North High School in Eastlake, Ohio where he excelled in football, baseball and wrestling. As a student, Bill always carried his Bible on top of his school books; giving a strong testimony as to how much God meant to him. He was ready to share his faith at the gym, school, or wherever God gave him the opportunity. Recently, Bill was honored by North High School as he was inducted into the North High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
Bill married the love of his life, Susan Eisenhart, on December 12, 1970 in Middleburg Heights, Ohio. God blessed them with 53 years of marriage. They met at church while Bill was attending Baldwin-Wallace College on a football scholarship. Following their wedding, Bill transferred with Sue to The King’s College in New York where Bill played baseball and earned a Batchelor of Science degree in Physical Education and a minor in Bible.
After graduation, Bill taught Science and Physical Education and coached football and baseball. He ministered in Florida at Miami Christian School, Westminster Christian School; Westminster Academy in Fort Lauderdale and Hollywood Christian School.
In 1995, God led them to the public school arena in Georgia where he taught and coached at Eagles Landing Middle and High School in McDonough. He also taught at several elementary schools before retiring in 2012. What a blessing it was that their three children attended many of the schools where he taught and coached.
Bill always viewed his career as a ministry. He spiritually motivated and mentored his students on a daily basis and made a lasting impression in their lives. He encouraged his students; including those that weren’t necessarily athletic. One of his students referred to Bill as a “great hero of the faith”. God gave Bill success and he gave the Glory to God! Bill’s teams won multiple championships including a Florida State Football Championship in 1990. Bill was blessed to be chosen Coach of the Year several times during his coaching career both in Florida and Georgia.
Bill and Sue are blessed with three children Matthew (Stefani), Sara (Matt), and Luke (Ashley) and nine grandchildren: Micah, Macie, Andrew, Daniel, and James; John Mark and Abigail; Natalee and Scarlett. Bill was intentional in his relationship with his children and grandchildren. Bill will forever be “Dad” and “Papa”. Bill gave God ALL the Glory for his children’s successes as he poured into their lives. Matt and Luke were drafted into Major League Baseball after attending Georgia Tech and after attending Georgia State, Sara, with God by her side, has developed a thriving business. Praise God! But as parents, Bill and Sue’s greatest joy is knowing that their children and grandchildren love Jesus and desire to serve Him.
Sue recalls how throughout their 53 years of marriage Bill was very disciplined. This was evident as Bill read God’s Word and prayed for his family and friends daily, without fail. He also continued to exercise and work out on a regular basis. The last time he went to the gym was on Saturday; the day before he passed.
Bill was a faithful son and son-in-law who would do anything for his family and friends. His desire was to serve God, his family, and others. Bill was a hard-worker and a problem-solver. In the last few years, he would press forward and ask God for physical strength each day. Bill has left a legacy in the hearts and lives of his family and friends that never can be erased.
Bill has already met Jesus face to face, he is whole and rejoicing in his ‘forever home’ where one day we will all be reunited again. Praise Jesus! Bill has joined his parents, his sister June, brother Henry, niece Junie, grandson Levi, Sue’s Mom and Dad and other beloved family members in Heaven. Bill is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, sisters Goldie and Carol (Rich) and several nieces and nephews; all of whom he loved deeply.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race. I have kept the faith.”
